THE WEDDING was a collaboration between Kat Sotelo and Jee-Horne Kan - an immersive, absurdist play, a pointed rebellion from traditional rituals to serve as their actual wedding ceremony. Transforming an outdoor lot into a cathedral, THE WEDDING incorporated wild characters in the congregation (friends, family, and strangers were invited to participate and become performers) - an interruptor, a weeper, even the photographer became fantastical roles.
The ceremony bastardized rituals informed by each director’s distinct cultural background, inventing new gestures and new meaning for Sotelo and Kan. Transforming costumes, crude sets and choreographed pop dance routines were part of the magic. THE WEDDING was a labor of pure love and imagination - to celebrate this partnership in both art and life.
